Gainsborough Flooring take on challenges to raise funds for St Catherine’s Hospice
The Gainsborough Flooring family has been raising funds for local charity St Catherine’s Hospice through a variety of challenging activities.
The family has been involved with the Hospice over the past year, as Holly Keelan, aged 17 has been volunteering at the Hospice once a week whilst undertaking her A Levels and has been inspired by the work the Hospice undertakes on a daily basis.
Holly commented, “St Catherine’s has been a fantastic support to me allowing me to gain valuable work experience in my career path. The work they do has inspired me to want to raise money and awareness for everything they do to help patients and families when it really matters most. It’s been a privilege to be able to volunteer weekly and work with the St Catherine’s team and patients, and I just want to give something back.”
Holly and her family started their challenge with a wine tasting evening on March 22ndwhere they raised a staggering £2,237.
This was followed by the St Catherine’s ‘moonlight and memories walk’ through Preston on 30th of June and finally the National Three Peaks challenge on the 7th and 8th of July which involved climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, within 24 hours; Snowdon (1085m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Ben Nevis (1345m).
The team has had a great time practicing for the challenges as well as taking part in the events themselves. Vicky Keelan, Managing Director of Gainsborough Flooring and Holly’s mum, commented, “We’re so proud of Holly and her commitment to St Catherine’s. The whole family has been behind her encouraging each other to complete the challenges. In total we have raised £3,536 for St Catherine’s which we know will be used to help patients and their loved ones through very difficult times in their lives.” You can read more about the fund raising activities on the St Catherine’s website here.
