Gainsborough’s Founder Sheila Brown Turns 85
Sheila Brown who established Gainsborough Flooring in the 1960s is celebrating her 85th birthday on 8th April.
Originally based in Shepherd Street in Preston, Sheila set up the business as a flooring wholesaler, supplying local retail carpet companies with a range of flooring.
Over the coming years the business expanded considerably and Gainsborough Flooring turned their hand to working directly with customers who wanted them to supply and install their flooring.
As the company developed they began working with flooring manufacturers such as Amtico, Karndean, Brintons, Alternative Flooring, Jacaranda and many more reputable flooring companies.
In 2013 the team decided to relocate their premises to the current site in Preston city centre on Heatley Street. This move resulted in a major expansion in the retail side of the business with many customers visiting the extensive new showroom to view the huge range of impressive flooring options on display.
The company is now in the very capable hands of Sheila’s children Eddy and Vicky, however, Sheila is still a regular in the showroom and will regularly call in to see loyal customers and support the team.
